Successive generations of mariners have charted their courses in these waters of the western Indian Ocean, as well as men o’ war and, of course, pirates for whom Seychelles’ shallow waters and timber-rich forests provided shelter and perfect locations to conceal fabulous, and still undiscovered, treasures.
For all this time, well off the beaten track and far from the madding crowd, the Seychelles Islands have existed like sleeping beauties, virtually untouched by the depredations of man, as natural sanctuaries for diverse forms of flora and fauna among which may be counted some of the rarest specimens on earth.
Today the islands with their abundant diversity and spectacular, almost surreal, loveliness, have become another form of sanctuary – for sailors of today wishing to escape the drab predictability and monoculture of run-of-the-mill tourism destinations to seek a different kind of experience, one that remains authentic and true….the Seychelles Islands…another world.
